History

The Datsun Z-cars—beginning with the legendary Datsun 240Z—are among the most iconic and influential Japanese sports cars in automotive history.

1. Datsun 240Z (S30) – 1969–1973
Debut: Released in Japan in 1969 (as the Fairlady Z) and in the U.S. in 1970 as the Datsun 240Z.
Engine: 2.4L inline-6 (L24), ~150 hp.
Impact: Offered European sports car performance (like Jaguar and Porsche)  at a fraction of the price.
Legacy: Helped establish Japanese performance credibility globally.

2. Datsun 260Z & 280Z (S30 Series) – 1974–1978
260Z (1974): Slightly larger 2.6L engine (L26), minor styling changes. U.S. version had less power due to emissions regulations.
280Z (1975–1978): 2.8L engine (L28E), introduced Bosch fuel injection. Improved emissions and reliability.
Styling: Still retained the sleek lines of the original 240Z.
